Flowers Of The Month

free magic practical magic serafina stars & seasons May 17, 2023

Do you know about flowers of the month? To decorate my May bullet journal pages I chose flower doodles. I was a little late with my drawings and didn’t have much inspiration, so I googled “flower of the month” and learned that there is a specific birth flower for each of our twelve months! So far I knew about zodiacs and birth stones, but I had never heard about flowers. This months flower is the lily of the valley and the hawthorn.

According to my research, the lily of the valley represent sweetness, purity, humility, and happiness. Aside from doodling these flowers, I thought it would be wonderful to journal on the meanings of the lily of the valley for a mid month reflection.

Sweetness: One of the first things that come to mind is my very sweet dog, Genie. She is incredible gentle with humans and a very calm dog indoors. In the outside world she becomes a flower girl. She always brings in leaves, seeds, sticks, and other items that get stuck in her fur from roaming around in the underbrush. It makes my heart melt.

Purity: This May has been very rainy in Munich, Germany. The water gushing out of the skies feels cleansing to the mind, body and my surroundings. Nature has become green and very lush. It all feels more pure and fresh after a long winter. Everything is starting anew.

Humility: No matter how much you know, you really don't know anything. A great reminder for spring. It's always a good idea to look at things from a new perspective. You never know what you might find when you expand your mind and let go.

Happiness: The return of spring is currently bringing me a lot of happiness. I have moved my winter coats and shoes to the basement and am so excited and joyous to be wearing sneakers and lighter outerwear again. It feels freeing. Here in Germany, it is still raining a lot and the past days have been cold, but I have decided that the winter has ended.

I highly recommend exploring the lily of the valley. You can journal on it's meaning as I've done. You can go marvel at it and take photos of it to see it through a new lens. You can go meditate by it and sink into nature and the meaning of spring. The options are endless. Go out and find something that caries value for you.

Fun fact: Lily of the valley is called "Maiglöckchen" in German, which directly translated means may-bell.
