We carry a lot of stress we are unaware of. If we get into a habit of checking in with ourselves frequently, this fact becomes blatantly apparent. There is a solution. It's called magic. Allow us to explain:

This is why the following practice is magic: It will help you instantly change your consciousness at will as you learn to move from stress and tension to awareness and relaxation. 

This one is inspired by all our other than human fellow mammals. Unlike us, most don't live in a culture or society that distances them from their innate physical wisdom. If you live with or near relaxed mammals, you will see that they stretch frequently. When something stressful happens, they will immediately shake it off and yawn.

We need to add a step to benefit from this same practice. Here's how those of us living in human bodies can get instant stress relief:

  • With your eyes open or closed, take a moment to check in with yourself. Do you feel any tension in your body? Are there any feelings of stress in your mind? Could you benefit from a bit of relaxation? 
  • Option 1: If you are stuck sitting or in a public place, inhale deeply and exhale with a sigh. As you do so, shake your head a bit, roll your shoulders, and relax your jaw. Wiggle your torso as well. Repeat the breath until you yawn. To finish the practice, do the best full-body stretch you can.
  • Option 2: Stand up if you are in private or don't care about keeping up appearances. Take a deep inhale followed by an audible exhale out of your mouth. Shake your whole body, roll your hips and shoulders as you keep repeating the deep inhale, exhaling out of your mouth. Work your way towards a big yawn. Finish off with the biggest, most delicious full-body stretch you can muster.
