Isn't it interesting?

journal pipaluk Jun 07, 2023

Greenland is the only country that has never seen war. Or so I have heard and read several times. Do send us an email to [email protected] if you know of other lands on earth that have never seen war!

My name, Pipaluk, is from Greenland. It meaning is: Something sweet that belongs to me. Am I something sweet that belongs to you? I hope my work brings sweetness to your life. I hope you feel my work belongs to you.

Carrying a Greenlandic name has me studying Greenlandic culture on and off throughout my life. Here are some of the few discoveries:

Recently I read some of the work of the Greenlandic shaman Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq. Certain books I found only in German. It is exciting to discover work outside the English speaking world. I have found it just so interesting!

This shaman, when you hear him talk, often says the phrase, “It’s so interesting.” Like he is discovering the world entirely new. Another wisdom keeper I know, Sweet Medicine Nation, often says something similar.

It is inspiring, to listen to these elders twice my age,
with all their experience,
with all the things they have seen,
with all the changes and developments they have witnessed,
with all the knowledge they hold,
to say,
so often,
with the curiosity some say is reserved for the youngest amongst us,
“Isn’t it just so interesting?”

Would you like to join me in trying to look at the world with eyes and a mind that continuously wonders at how interesting it all is?

Let’s try listening to those either younger or with less experience in an area become awe struck by a new discovery, something you have discovered for yourself but never through their perspective and emotion.

Replace ‘I know.” with “How interesting!”

What happens to your world when you do this?
What happens to your relationships?

It is just so interesting to look at what we already know and stay present with what is so interesting about it!

It is just so interesting to look all around and focus on all the things that are so interesting!

The pattern of a carpet.
The singing of birds at certain hours of the day.
The buzzing of bees in a bush.
The smooth surface of glass.
The power of the written word.
The way trash seems to accumulate so quickly.
The snoring of dogs.
The structure of buildings.

To be curious and fascinated together is such a wonderful thing.
It turns teachers into students and students into teachers.

It is such a wonderful way to connect.

The image of this blog post was made with openai's DALL E. Initially I used the prompt: "Isn't it interesting?" This resulted in some generic photography style photos of kids, dogs, fathers and moms that look like what you can buy online to use in ads. I scrapped those!
The prompt I ended up using the image of is this: "Fantasy style illustration of fairy lights, jungle and arctic ice in a post apocalyptic city. "
